Finally, an effective solution for your double chin. Belkyra™ injection for double chin treatment at Edmonton Dermatology.

What is a 'double chin'?

A ‘double chin’ or Submental Adipose is an unwanted collection of fat which can be caused by weight gain. Weight loss however, often does not address targeted fat loss in this area, and as a result, some patients feel self-conscious about this cosmetic issue and further, feel that it results in aging their appearance.

Is there downtime?

Patients will see some localized swelling in the area treated for a few days post treatment and some small discomfort akin to a bruising sensation. In some patients, some bruising may also occur however, can be addressed with makeup application.

What is the Belkyra™ injection?

Belkyra™, otherwise known as Kybella (in the U.S.) is an FDA and Health Canada approved safe injectable substance that is used to reduce and potentially eliminate fat under the chin. It is a non-animal, non-human, synthetic chemical substance that can be found in small quantities in the human body. This lecithin type chemical, can disrupt the cell membranes of fat cells, thus releasing their contents (glycerol and fatty acids) and break them down safely and effectively where they are taken back to the liver and released through the kidneys through elimination.

Does Belkyra™ result in skin tightening?

No, Belkyra™ is not designed to tighten skin. Some patients who have a significant amount of adipose tissue may wish to discuss tightening options post procedure with our Dermatologist, Dr. Muba Taher. In this manner, we will work together to provide an educated, results driven option for your best treatment result.
