Built in 2016, Edmonton Dermatology & Skin Surgery Centre is a state-of-the-art, non-hospital surgical facility, accredited by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta.

A state-of-the-art clinic and surgical facility

The clinic was designed to provide a soothing, modern environment that prioritizes patient safety, comfort and privacy. It contains six private medical surgical rooms and a patient recovery lounge.

An in-house surgical laboratory allows immediate post-surgery analysis of skin tissue slides while the patient waits. Dr. Taher can promptly verify that a mohs micrographic surgery procedure has successfully removed all cancerous tissue. If cancer remains, the surgical team can conduct another pass – saving the patient from rescheduling.

Primary surgical treatments

Dr. Muba Taher has received advanced training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Wide Local Excision techniques, and advanced reconstructive surgery.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery

Mohs Micrographic Surgery is an exceptionally precise and advanced surgical procedure, considered to be the most effective treatment for certain skin cancers. A microscopic examination is conducted to map the affected area. Skin is removed in extremely thin layers until no cancerous cells remain. To learn more, visit www.mohscollege.org.

Wide Local Excision

This is a surgical procedure primarily used to treat early stage melanoma, yet it can also be employed for basal and squamous cell carcinomas. The affected tissue is removed along with a margin of healthy tissue. The resulting defect is reconstructed as necessary.
