Botox Edmonton | The Benefits of Botox Injections
There are primarily two types of injections we offer at Edmonton Dermatology, neuromodulators, and fillers. Both of which have different benefits to help you with your antiaging needs. They are relatively non-invasive which means they require little down time or recovery after application. Both methods use a syringe, hence the name injection, to deliver the product. Each type of injection has multiple different brands that give the same results but work a little differently from each other.
The first thing to clarify is that an injection that is a neuromodulator uses products such as Botox injections and Dysport. Most people use the term Botox cosmetic injections to describe these neuromodulators, but essentially there are two different types that we use at Edmonton Dermatology, and they give the same end results. They differ only slightly in their composition.
Dysport, also known as Botulinum Toxin Type A, helps you look younger by addressing the lines and wrinkles that appear over time on your face. This is a temporary fix, but as Dysport is injected into the muscle it stops it from moving and causing the creasing of the skin. It is used to treat the lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. You do not need to worry about losing your facial expressions because they will not disappear completely.
If you desire a completely frozen look, we can address any concerns or inquiries you have in a one-on-one consultation before any treatment is administered.
Quick Facts
Botox, also known as onabotulinum toxin A, is a purified protein that is injected into the muscle at the cellular junction level. This product also inhibits the messages to the muscles. As a result, the muscle movement is restricted which in turn helps the lines and wrinkles smooth out. It is also used to treat forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. Once it takes full effect you can enjoy a smoother, more youthful look.
Botox injections and Dysport suppress the muscle movement for as long as the product is in your body. It is injected into the muscle at cellular level where it stops the nerves from sending messages to the muscles. Once the muscles stop moving the skin lays flatter and smoother because it is not wrinkled or manipulated by the muscles. It takes about 14 days for it take full effect. After this time, week by week the body metabolizes the Botox or Dysport and it is eventually eliminated completely by the six-month mark.
Gain Some Knowledge About Botox Injections
You will notice the muscles regain movement increasingly until they are back to fully functioning as before. Something else to mention is that these two neuromodulators do not move from the place injected. This means they do not go into the bloodstream and travel throughout the body.
Most of our clients rebook for their next neuromodulator injection around four months’ time. They love the effect it has on giving them a more youthful look without the downtime of recovery. In addition to this it is very affordable and relatively quick and painless to have completed especially when comparing it to other more invasive antiaging treatments.
Now let us address the other injections we offer at Edmonton Dermatology, FILLERS! These can work for anyone trying to refill the fat loss on the face that happens naturally with age. As we age, we lose this volume in our fat cells that keeps our skin looking younger and plumper. The results are worsened with gravity as it pulls the skin and makes it look saggy. Fillers are injected into targeted areas to help plump them up. Good examples are in the cheeks, temples, and cheekbones but not in the eye area.
The brand of filler that we use at Edmonton Dermatology is Restylane. This clear gel formulation of Hyaluronic Acid is found in your body naturally. Restylane is formulated to act like natural HA. This product is injected into the skin to help smooth out the lines and wrinkles by filling in the empty spaces. It can also be added to the lips to give them an enhancement that is still a natural feel and look. This is one of the biggest differences between Botox injections and filler. Botox takes away the sense of feeling in the muscles targeted. Whereas fillers just fill in the gaps you see on your face in the targeted areas.
Fillers are not systemic, meaning they do not go into the bloodstream and travel throughout the body. They are localized to where the injection is targeted. Fillers stay put once they are placed. The Hyaluronic Acid molecules in our skin are surrounded by our natural collagen. Over time HA decreases with the aging process. The good news is HA can be injected back into the skin and because it is water loving it attracts water. The collagen feeds off that. All this works together to add volume to the targeted area.
Keep This in Mind, Go to a Professional
It is especially important you have fillers and Botox injections treatments done by a professional like a doctor or nurse. These highly trained, skilled experts understand the anatomy of the face and how to target the areas affected so that you get the results you desire. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons are at the top of this list of experts. If you chose to have someone not trained or certified, you are risking not only your results but your health.
There are cases where filler has gone into a vein and that can occlude the vein. It also needs to be reversed immediately with an HA enzyme that eats up the filler. Botox is also best done by the professional. You do not want your eyebrows to droop because of the wrong muscles being targeted. It takes three to four months for it to wear off too.
Fillers like Botox are not permanent and eventually the body breaks them down. The results can last up to six months and even longer. After this it is time to rebook your next treatment so you can maintain the youthful look you have enjoyed.
